Bye, Tita Cory...

Last Friday (July 31), I had to bring my daughter to Makati Medical Center because she was sick. I took the chance to take these pictures of the hospital's facade with yellow ribbons tied on it, knowing that Pres. Cory was there. Little did I expect that almost 11 hours after that, our beloved ex-President passed away.

Reporters wait outside MMC
ribbons were tied on railings around MMC
and in posts and trees all throughout Makati

And just last August 3, I had to accompany Fred to the doctor because he had viral infection. We heard President Cory's cortege will pass by Ayala Avenue in Makati. Fred, though sick, wanted us to get a glimpse of it. He said it only happens once in a lifetime and we should pay our last respect to her so we walked and waited for the convoy.
thousands of employees waited for the convoy to come
people threw confetti from their office's windows
and even printed WE LOVE YOU, CORY!
and hung it outside
I couldn't believe that people, including me and Fred,
braved the heat and hunger (it was 12pm!)
just to get a glimpse of Pres. Cory's casket
the children and grandchildren of President Cory
were waving and thanking the people

Posting these pics is my way of paying tribute to President Cory Aquino, one woman God used to restore democracy in our country. Knowing how she was a pillar of strength to her family, her life inspires me to be the best mom to my kids and to live unselfishly for others. I think that is just one of her lasting legacies. :)

Bye, Tita Cory...

hi Beth, i am about to write the same article today, but i am still waiting my son to upload the pics from my celphone. You know what, i was there too last wednesday braving the heat, in fact i had a sunburn now all over, as if i've gone from a swimming. I went to makati medical also for a medical clearance, then when i saw the crowd forming the streets so i knew Cory will pass through, so just like you i took the last chance to see her too. What a coincidence!

good for you you were able to capture those moments. i was only able to watch and witness it through TV and be updated by the twitter posts...

this is a nice tribute ate beth. kahit papano, you were able to formally say goodbye to her. i pray that her soul rest in peace. she indeed is an inspiration for she helped shape the lives of many filipino moms by being the role model that she is: a woman of prayer, service and sacrifice.

I'm thinking of posting a short note about how she touched me as a mom.

I'm glad that you're able to capture a part of our history.

She will surely be missed.

You are lucky that you have witnessed the event first hand. Amazing how Filipinos show their love to one honest, humble and great leader like Pres. Cory. May makakatapat pa kaya sa hundreds of thousands na nakiramay sa Aquinos! Sobra silang mahal ng bayan!

Swerte mo to have actually taken those photos! Ayaw kasi ako samahan ng aking hubby. Better daw sa TV. hu hu..

It's sad to know that our dear former president has to join our Creator, but the outpouring of love and respect from people who look up to her is truly amazing. We'll always remember her as the only moral president we had. By the way, I wasn't able to respond to the message you left on my blog. Yes, I attended the Goldilocks event, and I went there early, that's why I was only able to read your message today. I also blogged about it.
